LIFEPAK 100
The 100 was the first defibrillator designed for home use. It would be prescribed to at-risk patients for use by a spouse or caretaker and had to remained completely sealed until usage as the battery was single use. Upon breaking the seal, the defibrillator would turn on and direct the user on what to do.
The device was a market failure, and only a few were prescribed and sold before being pulled from sale. Because of this failure, Physio-Control remained hesitant to introduce any new automated defibrillators for public or home use until the LP500.
This hesitance led to the eventual development of the Heartstream Forerunner by former Physio engineers who left the company after the CEO could not be convinced to pursue the project.
The only known example is on display at Stryker Redmond on the LIFEPAK product wall.
