LIFEPAK 20 Series

Defibrillator/Monitor

Medtronic Physio-Control

Touted as “Simple, yet sophisticated” the LIFEPAK 20 Series was the first hospital oriented LP product to have the Adaptiv Biphasic technology and Shock Advisory System integrated by default. Compact and full of power, the 20 was cross compatible with the LP12 series and also included an innovative door that blocked off all manual controls while in AED mode and automatically switched to manual therapy options when opened. The 20 was also the first to use IrDA to transfer patient data to a computer for use with CODE-STAT systems.

The 20 was adaptable to the customers needs, offering a meriad of therapy assessories such as the option of QUIK-COMBO or FAST-PATCH Plus electrodes, optional noninvasive pacer, and MasimoSET SpO2, and a new design of the standard hard paddles which also integrated pediatric paddles under the adult paddles.

The original 20 used a Ni-MH battery pack that was designed to be permanently installed until replacement. In 2008 the 20 series was upgraded with a lithium-ion battery and onboard battery level monitoring, adding a “fuel gauge” to the main menu screen. The LP20e (e for energy) was produced alongside the original 20 for a little bit until completely replacing it in production.

The 20 series was upgraded again in 2013 with the CodeManagement Module and a major software upgrade. The software upgrade allowed the 20 to use the CMMs features and changed the UI some, adding a larger clock and CPR metronome. The CMM added Bluetooth and wireless connection features for use with CODE-STAT along with end-tidal capnography. All 20s no matter the production year or variant can be upgraded with the CMM and software upgrade.

The LP20 series has arguably stood the test of time, with many hospitals continuing to use the 20 on wards, in ERs and ORs, and clinics.
